Unit SW2- A Sample

Personal pronouns (object)
We have seen the subject forms of the personal pronouns, the equivalents of I, you, etc.:

Jag ser kvinnan.
Du ser kvinnan.
etc.

We will now see the object pronouns, the equivalents of me, etc.:

jag mig vi oss
du dig ni er
han honom de dem
hon henne

Mig and dig are pronounced as though they were written mej and dej; in informal contexts they sometimes are written like this. In some parts of Sweden, Stockholm included, de and dem are both pronounced as though they were written dom.

Practice
Replace what is in brackets by the appropriate pronoun:

Jag ser (kvinnan).
Läraren känner (din far).
Din far känner inte (läraren och hans son).
Jag såg (dig och din far) igår.

Adverbs of motion
Some adverbs of place have a different form for use when motion is involved:

Var är Erik. Han är där.
Vart går Erik? Han går dit
(cf. the old English forms whither and thither)

Practice
Put either där or dit in the gaps:

Hennes vän ska resa (     ) om tre veckor.
Erik bodde (     ) för tre år sedan.
Jag gick (     ) igår.
